Los aportes electorales del movimiento «Manuel con Luis»

El viernes 17 de mayo, llamé a un amigo llamado Henry de Santiago, quien es miembro de una familia que tradicionalmente simpatiza con el PLD, para preguntarle si apoyaban a Leonel o a Abel. Henry me respondió: «Mi familia, mis amigos, estamos todos con Luis Abinader y lo estamos apoyando por sugerencia de Manuel Jiménez a través del movimiento deportivo y cultural ‘Manuel con Luis'».

Durante la conversación, Henry me informó que ese movimiento tenía presencia en las provincias de Duarte, La Vega y Sánchez Ramírez, María Trinidad Sánchez, Espaillat entre otras , y que se estaba trabajando sin hacer ruido a nivel nacional con gestores culturales, personal ligado a la historia y las artes.

Ese Manuel Jiménez, creador del monumento a la Biblia, cuyo poder de convocatoria pudo juntar al Monseñor Francisco Ozoria con los principales líderes de la iglesia adventista y evangélica, es el mismo hombre que restauró la iglesia más antigua del Nuevo Mundo, la ermita del Rosario.

Manuel Jiménez, el alcalde que honró al más alto nivel a héroes del siglo XX con el Paseo de la Historia, y que restauró el monumento a Duarte, logró sumarle votos a Luis en los sectores religiosos, culturales, patrióticos y en otros sectores de la sociedad.

Pasadas las elecciones, mi amiga Isaura, una peledeísta enferma que vive en Newark, me sorprendió con la noticia de que ella votó por Abinader. Cuando le pregunté por qué no votó por el PLD o la Fuerza del Pueblo, me dijo: «Aquí todos votamos por el candidato de Manuel Jiménez, que es Luis Abinader. Cuando Manuel vino aquí, anunció que haría un boulevard de los dominicanos en el exterior y una oficina de asesoría gratuita para todos los dominicanos que vivieran fuera del país, y vi con mis propios ojos que cumplió su promesa. Me sentí comprometida a votar por quien diga Manuel.» Luego agregó: «Los dominicanos que vivimos en Newark y Nueva York estamos muy agradecidos con Manuel Jiménez, que con sus iniciativas nos mantiene unidos desde la distancia con la cultura de nuestra patria».

Daysi, mi esposa, quería que su sobrino Yunior, de 19 años, votara por el León. El joven le respondió: «Tía, te voy a complacer con tu candidato a diputado, Castillo, pero para presidente votaré por Abinader, porque gracias a Manuel estoy estudiando en el Instituto Tecnológico de las Américas, que ahora también está en la Parada de la Cultura de Santo Domingo Este».

Los aportes en votos del movimiento «Manuel con Luis» posiblemente nunca se lleguen a cuantificar, porque los aportes en imagen, decencia, honestidad y compromisos con los valores culturales del país, por parte de él hacia su patria, son incalculables.
