En contraste, los hombres se enfrentan a los desafíos de manera más unida, dictando leyes que les benefician y, cuando necesitan de nuestros votos, hacen concesiones mínimas al género femenino. Incluso, algunas madres fomentan el machismo al preguntarle a sus hijos preadolescentes cuántas novias tienen, tratando a las mujeres como objetos de colección. Por otro lado, la crianza de las hijas a menudo las deja desprotegidas cuando enfrentan fracasos matrimoniales o se casan con hombres abusadores, ya que no se atreven a compartir su desdicha con sus madres, quienes, en lugar de brindarles apoyo, pueden normalizar estas situaciones.

En un mundo donde países como Arabia y Líbano permiten que los violadores queden exonerados de culpa si se casan con sus víctimas, es lamentable que aún existan lugares donde hombres se casen con niñas. Afortunadamente, en la República Dominicana, las mujeres tienen la libertad de elegir con quién casarse y qué estudiar. Sin embargo, a pesar de estos avances, es triste aceptar la realidad de que muchas mujeres nos percibimos como amenazas mutuas en lugar de compañeras de lucha, lo cual limita nuestro progreso colectivo.

Resulta aún más desalentador observar que mujeres con belleza e inteligencia ocupan importantes cargos, pero sienten temor de la competencia de subalternas que poseen talento. En lugar de rodearse de otras mujeres capacitadas, optan por rodearse de hombres o mujeres que carecen de habilidades. Este fenómeno, comparable a la envidia de Kiko hacia el Chavo, es una dinámica común en algunas mujeres dominicanas. Aunque Kiko tiene a su madre y una casa donde vivir, recibiendo dinero para ir a la escuela, el Chavo, quien carece de madre y un lugar para dormir, es más feliz. En lugar de ver a sus subalternas inteligentes como amenazas, deben considerarlas colaboradoras eficientes que les ayudarán a convertirse en mejores gerentes.
