Mensaje de los aspirantes a alcaldes por la Fuerza del Pueblo en Santo Domingo Este

El comité político del Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD) se reunió el lunes 12 de junio con el objetivo de anunciar la decisión de Danilo Medina de no establecer una alianza municipal con la Fuerza del Pueblo. Esta determinación se basa en la percepción de que el partido verde presenta dos debilidades: la primera es la falta de liderazgo de la Fuerza del Pueblo en las principales alcaldías del país, según la opinión de Danilo Medina. La segunda debilidad radica en que un 35 % de los simpatizantes de Leonel podrían confundirse y votar por el alcalde del PLD, pensando que están apoyando a su líder, el expresidente Leonel Fernández.
El PLD es consciente de que no es una opción viable para el poder en 2024, y su presidente, Danilo Medina, está dispuesto a hacer cualquier sacrificio, incluso en cuanto a su salud, para cumplir el objetivo de evitar que Leonel vuelva al poder. En consecuencia, el PLD invertirá todos sus esfuerzos en lograr más alcaldías que la Fuerza del Pueblo, con el fin de desmoralizar al partido que presenta al candidato presidencial que podría competir con Luis Abinader.
Desde esta perspectiva, considero que la estrategia de Danilo, consistente en definir con anticipación a los candidatos a alcaldes en los municipios más importantes, es acertada e inteligente. La proclamación de Luis Alberto fue un paso adecuado que deja a la Fuerza del Pueblo en una posición desventajosa en Santo Domingo Este.
Algunos analistas políticos argumentan que el fenómeno de Leonel y la Fuerza del Pueblo podría hacer que los ciudadanos que se oponen al gobierno acudan a votar por el partido verde en febrero, sin importar quién sea el candidato a alcalde. Según esta perspectiva, la gente votaría por ese partido incluso si llevara candidatos extravagantes o de dudosa reputación. En política, no se puede dejar nada al azar y, en este momento, la Fuerza del Pueblo está obligada a presentar candidatos a alcaldes que despierten pasiones. En el caso de Santo Domingo Este, no pueden permitirse el lujo de jugar a la ruleta, esperando un milagro como el de Antonio Tavera, quien ganó la provincia más grande del país y el 84 % de los votantes lo ven de frente sin conocerlo. Si bien el caso de Tavera es más común cuando se postula en la misma elección que el presidente, las elecciones municipales son separadas de las presidenciales.
Santo Domingo Este representa el 11 % de la población y la Fuerza del Pueblo está obligada a presentar un candidato a alcalde atractivo, que pueda beneficiarse del crecimiento de ese partido. En este momento, solo uno de los precandidatos alcaldes marca cifras medianamente decentes y es el más vulnerable en una campaña electoral.
Mi consejo para aquellos valientes hombres y mujeres que aspiran a dirigir el municipio más grande del país es que sean realistas, mantengan los pies sobre la tierra y estén dispuestos a considerar cualquier opción que pueda surgir por parte de su partido. Esto incluye la posibilidad de presentar como candidato a la alcaldía de Santo Domingo Este a alguien externo al partido o a un miembro de otra organización política, que tenga la capacidad de competir con Manuel Jiménez y superar a Luis Alberto.
Si la Fuerza del Pueblo logra desempeñarse exitosamente en las elecciones municipales de Santo Domingo Este, no hay dudas de que Leonel y Abinader se enfrentarían en una segunda vuelta el 30 de junio de 2024 y volvería al poder el 16 de agosto del 2024. Sin embargo, si el desempeño del partido en Santo Domingo Este resulta lamentable, Leonel quedaría en segundo lugar, pero sin posibilidad de avanzar a la segunda vuelta. Esto se debe a que su fracaso a nivel municipal convertiría a Luis Abinader en el presidente electo en la primera vuelta electoral.
