La Republica Dominicana a diciembre del 2022, alcanzó la tasa de desempleo mas alta de latinoamerica y el Caribe. La última vez que el país habia logrado ese despreciable sitial fue en diciembre del 2003
Más de 100 líderes juveniles de 38 organizaciones junto con representantes del Ministerio de Trabajo y miembros de Ceduca (Centro para la Educación y el Desarrollo) se dieron cita en el V Foro Intermunicipal de Políticas Públicas de Juventud y Empleo. Se trata del quinto encuentro organizado por el Centro para la Educación y el Desarrollo, donde se puso de relieve la situación laboral de los jóvenes en República Dominicana.
A través de un informe elaborado por la institución organizadora del evento, se discutió el pasado, presente y futuro de los jóvenes, sus problemas y sus posibles soluciones: “El propósito de este Foro es escuchar de las autoridades propuestas en materia de empleo juvenil y que también los jóvenes puedan hacer propuestas al Gobierno, al Ayuntamiento, etc.”
Alba Reyes, presidenta del Ceduca, comenzó su intervención diciendo que hay que “analizar qué está sucediendo desde el Gobierno en materia de implementación de las políticas públicas”, dejando claro que los datos del estudio son preocupantes y la situación laboral de los jóvenes es “muy grave”.
“Este año el foro se ha especializado en el tema de juventud y empleo, dado que en las últimas ediciones del foro, los jóvenes habían expresado esa dificultad a la hora de acceder a su primer empleo porque las empresas les demandan una experiencia laboral que no tienen”, explicó Reyes.
La presidenta del Ceduca atribuyó esa situación a uno de los males de la juventud dominicana, el abandono escolar: “La posibilidad de emplearse es mínima porque ellos desertan de la educación media y eso les impide entrar en la educación universitaria, lo que les obliga a emplearse en el sector informal”, expuso.
En esa misma línea se expresó Katherine Javier, consultora de Educa, quien fue la encargada de explicar los datos más importantes del estudio. Javier aseguró que el 55.3 % de los jóvenes dominicanos se encuentran desocupados o inactivos, dejando el 44.7 % restante a trabajadores formales e informales. No obstante, ese no fue el dato más preocupante revelado por el estudio ya que, según Ceduca un 19 % de los dominicanos, entre 15 y 29 años, ni estudian ni trabajan y, por tanto, carecen de la “competencia requerida por el mercado laboral”.
De igual manera, la presidenta de Ceduca, Alba Reyes, mandó un mensaje muy claro al Gobierno pidiendo soluciones y un cambio en las políticas de empleo: “Frente a la ineficacia de las políticas de empleo del Estado hemos convocado este foro y hemos invitado al Ministerio de Trabajo para que lo exponga y se pregunten qué están haciendo ellos ante este gran problema para los jóvenes”.
