EL ALCALDE MANUEL JIMÉNEZ Y LOS REGIDORES DE SANTO DOMINGO ESTE RECIBIERON LA VISITA OFICIAL DEL ALCALDE Y LOS CONCEJALES DE ALLENTOWN

Los alcaldes de Santo Domingo Este, Manuel Jiménez, y de la ciudad estadounidense de Allentown, Pensilvania, Matthew Tuerk, dieron inicio al proceso para producir un acuerdo de hermanamiento e intercambio cultural entre ambas ciudades.

Durante una visita oficial encabezada por Matthew Tuerk y la presidenta de los concejales de Allentown, la dominicana procedente de Los Mina, Cynthia Mota, las autoridades locales de Estados Unidos intercambiaron impresiones con sus homólogos dominicanos, conocieron y disfrutaron varios de los principales atractivos naturales y culturales de Santo Domingo Este, incluyendo al parque Los Tres Ojos, la plaza Juan Pablo Duarte, el Faro a Colón, manifestaciones folklóricas, entre otros.

Según explicó el alcalde Tuerk, el acercamiento oficial busca conocer de cerca la cultura y las tradiciones que definen el perfil de los dominicanos, cuya población tiene un alto nivel de incidencia en Allentown y en todo Estados Unidos.

“Para nosotros ha sido una visita muy distinguida. Esperemos que este sea uno de los tantos encuentros de ambas ciudades, para que las dos ciudades sean hermanas y mejoren su funcionamiento y sus respectivas ciudadanías”, expresó Manuel Jiménez durante el recorrido que incluyó desayuno criollo, baile de merengue típico y disfrute de los atractivos naturales de Santo Domingo Este, como los lagos de la cueva de Los Tres Ojos.

Concejo de Regidores

En la visita oficial el Concejo de Regidores de Santo Domingo Este, presidido por el regidor José Ramón Jiménez, declaró al alcalde estadounidense Matthew Tuerk “Visitante Distinguido”, mientras que la concejal Cynthia Mota fue declarada “Hija Meritoria de Santo Domingo Este”, por representar dignamente a República Dominicana y al municipio en tierra de Estados Unidos.

Ambos reconocimientos fueron aprobados por el Concejo de Regidores a través de las resoluciones 25-2022 y 24-2022.

“Yo soy el primer alcalde latino de Allentown. Es un hecho importante conocer la República Dominicana, conocer un poco mejor sus ciudades, la vida diaria de estas personas para entenderlo. Esto es parte de las funciones de un líder”, apuntó Matthew Tuerk.

Por su parte, Cynthia Mota, oriunda de Los Mina, calificó como “una bendición el volver a casa y sentirse en casa”. Añadió que para ella “es un honor ser reconocida como hija del municipio y esto a su vez significa una gran responsabilidad, con el compromiso de seguir representando con orgullo mi tierra”.

La comitiva estaba compuesta, además, por Ian Holmes, integrante del Grupo Camila; Perla López Baray, presentadora y productora ejecutiva del canal WFMZ-TV 69; Miguel Acosta, miembro de la Cámara de Comercio Hispana; familiares de la concejal Cinthia Mota, entre otros.

Matthew Tuerk es un político estadounidense y funcionario del desarrollo económico que se desempeña como alcalde de Allentown, Pensilvania desde enero de 2022.

Anteriormente, ocupó cargos en la Corporación de Desarrollo Económico de Allentown (AEDC) y la Corporación de Desarrollo Económico de Lehigh Valley (LVEDC).

Mientras que Cynthia Mota es una destacada líder comunitaria de origen dominicano y presidenta del Consejo Municipal de la ciudad de Allentown, al norte de Pennsylvania.

Fue la primera dominicana en llegar a la Alcaldía como Concejal, posición en la cual ha logrado ser reelecta en tres ocasiones.

Recibió su licenciatura en la Universidad de East Stroudsburg, su maestría de la Pacific Oaks College y su doctorado en Psicología Clínica en Logo University.
