Tomás Troncoso, un ícono de la crónica deportiva, falleció en la mañana de este lunes, a la edad de 86 años.

“Lamento informarles a todos lo amigos, fanáticos del deporte en general, que papi falleció. ¡Que grande fuiste, viejo! ¡Te queremos mucho!”, informó su  hijo Tommy Troncoso en la cuenta de tuiter “Los Deportes en Marcha”, nombre del programa que durante cinco décadas produjo por varias emisoras, especialmente por Radio HIZ.

Tomás Altagracia Miguel Troncoso Cuesta era  hijo del profesor  Manolín Troncoso y la actriz Estela Cuesta, hermano de Chiqui y esposo de doña Annie, inició su programa radial «Los Deportes en Marcha» el 1ro de agosto de 1963, hace ya 50 años. Dos veces más y la mitad de los 20 que no son nada de Gardel.

Uno de los más carismáticos cronistas de­portivos quien nació el 29 de septiembre de 1935, en su primer hogar de Ciudad Nueva, en Santo Domingo y exaltado en el Ceremonial del 2005.

Fue figura importante en la conformación de la selección nacional de béisbol que ganó el oro en los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe de Jamaica en 1962.

Como miembro de la Federación de Béisbol (Fedoba), tuvo que ver con la selección que fue a los Juegos de Puerto Rico en 1966, de la que obtuvo bronce en el Mundial de Béisbol que se realizó en Dominicana en 1969 y como asesor del selectivo que ganó plata en los XII Juegos zonales de 1974 celebrados aquí.

En 1962, en calidad de comentarista, Formó parte del equipo que realizó la primera transmisión de juegos de Grandes Ligas, junto al narrador Billy Berroa (inmortal del Deporte), el fenecido Max Álvarez y Ellis Pérez.

Desde la temporada de 1963-64, que laboró con las Águilas Cibaeñas, Tomás ha trabajado como comentarista en el béisbol invernal. Desde 1964-65 con las Águilas Cibaeñas, Tigres de Licey y Leones del Escogido.

Con el Licey fue partícipe en todas las Series del Caribe en que ese club intervino y ocho de los nueve títulos que conquistó. Ha narrado en campeonatos Centroamericanos y Panamericanos y Mundiales en partidos de béisbol y baloncesto formó del “Bloque Hípico Deportivo”.
