Don Fermin sentia en su espalda la respiración de los atracadores que estaban a punto de darle alcance y cuando ya pensaba que sus piernas le fallaban, su instinto de conservacion le renovó las energías acelerando el paso con la potencia de un muchacho  de 20 años.

Su deseos de vivir eran más fuertes que los estragos causados  por sus  63 inviernos de sufrimientos,  hambre, insomnios y alegrias fugaces, lo que  no eran impedimento para correr con la habilidad de Félix Sanchez.   Para su fortuna, había una iglesia  a solo doscientos metros, sabía que todo era cuestion de resistir y llegar a la meta para librarse de sus tenaces perseguidores; cuando sólo faltaban 10 metros para llegar al templo del reino,  sintio un terrible dolor en el pecho  similar al del peso de un elefante  parado en dos patas sobre su caja toráxica, ese malestar que lo acercaba a la muerte le hizo recordar los más intensos momentos de su vida, incluso desde antes de nacer, desde el mismo dia que la desición de  una amiguita de su madre, chismosa,  le permitio nacer.

A los dos meses de su madre acostarse con el marido de su tía Filomena,  sintió un retraso por segundo mes consecutivo  y visitó a la viuda negra, quien era famosa por sus botellas para eliminar quistes  y sacar barrigas.

Le vendió una botella para matar la criatura que llevaba en el vientre, pero la bebida sólo le provocó una diarrea.

El viejo libidinoso de la farmacia  le vendió 6 pastillas para el estómago,cuyos efectos secundarios   le iba a provocar un fuerte sangrado de menstruación que le devolvería la tranquilidad , siempre y cuando se la bebiera con un extrato de malta caliente  y tuviera relación  con alguien que supiera martillar de forma que expulsara el problema.

La futura  madre de Don Fermin, le preguntó :  – ¿Dotoi y usted me puede explicar para decírselo al hombre que me jodio?

El farmacéutico paró el pecho sastifecho por que la chica lo llamó doctor y con aire de superiodridad le dijo:  –Mi niña es que eso es muy complejo para explicarlo y habemos poco que sabemos como hacerlo.

En su deseperación la joven se tomó las cuatro  pastillas, se puso dos en ese lugar donde todos imaginamos  y le pidió al farnacéutico que resolviera ese problema.

A María no le importó el olor a mentioles, yodo, sicote y grajo del boticario, ella solo queria desacerse de esa criatura que  en siete meses le desgraciaria la vida.

El viejo  crusificó  de las exremidades inferiores a la joven y le hundió sin piedad todo ese deseo acumulado de un hombre que tenía siete años sin ver a linda, desde la noche que su ex mujer lo abandonó para irse con el padre del dueño del punto  de sustancias prohibidas más prospero del barrio.

Para colmo, se habia bebido una pastilla para estimular los toros y se habia puesto una pomada donde usted y yo sabemos, cuyos efectos le permitian  durar mucho cabalgando sobre la infeliz joven.  El  viejo le invadió  el cuerpo de manera salvaje, sin el mínimo asomo de caricia, fue  una irrupción brutal y sin la minima compasión por aquella adolescente , quien resignada a pagar por la traición a su tía, soportaba con estoicimo la brutalidad de aquel adefecio humano que hundia sin pieda aquello que debió usar para dar vida y placer, que ese día convertia en arma de dolor y destrución.

Después de 49 minutos, el instinto de supervivencia le hizo empujar a su violador y la cabeza del viejebo  chocó en el filo del viejo armario. La joven salió por la puerta  trasera y un haitiano que la vio saliendo le preguntó:  -¿Por qué  salió tu por ese polta?  La joven llevó  al interior de la casa del farmacéutico  al extranjero y  cuando éste examinó el cadáver y dijo que estaba muerto, ya la futura madre estaba fuera de la vivienda gritando que el haitiano estaba matando al farmacéutico.

La turba enardecida no permitió que el hombre se defendiera y cuando llegaron los policias,  ya el cadáver del haitiano habia sido quemado por matar al herbolario.

En los días siguientes la santa joven se dedicó a cargar latas de agua y se dejaba caer sacos de arroz en la barriga para que muriera aquella criatura que delataria ese  pecado  y traición contra la hermana de su madre, pero todo fue inútil, su hijo nació y no hubo más remedio que criarlo en medio de la más extrema pobreza.

Antes  de morir, Fermín  volteó el rostro hacia sus persecutores para conocer a sus verdugos y salirle como fantasma todas las noches y no dejarlos en paz y en ese último seguro de vida hizo un recorrido de todo lo acontecido ese día.

Don Fermín  se levantaba  todas los días a las 6 a.m,, pero esa mañana dejó la cama más temprano, porque a las 4:14 fue despertado por el olor repugnante de la materia fecal de su nietecita de dos años, quien  tuvo la genial idea de untarle por boca, nariz y oído el fruto de un día completo comiendo puré de papa, manzana, leche, crema de habichuela y dos onzas de tierras negras que se comió en descuido de la madre, la que se olvidó de la niña  por estar jugando  barajas con Miguel, el vecino que había llegado al país deportado luego de cumplir un tercio de una condena por un delito que nadie quiere saber.

Don Fermín vivía en Invivienda, un sector  de Santo Domingo Este,   a 10 kilómetros del centro de la capital, él  trabajaba en el kilómetro 9 de la autopista Duarte, en el extremo oeste de la ciudad.  La jornada de trabajo fue normal y salió a la 4:15 y como de costumbre compró un periódico para leerlo en el autobús y ese día deseaba leerlo con más deseo, porque le habían dicho que en la página dos había una noticia muy interesante que lo llenaría de orgullo como dominicano, sin embargo, él la consideraba inquietante y peligrosa, sabía que vivía en un país que anunciar un día soleado era sinónimo de inundaciones o tormentas eléctricas, que las palabras bonitas del gobierno significaban calamidades y cuando se disponía a abrir el periódico en la parada se le acercó una señora de aproximadamente  50 años de edad, en compañía de dos hombres un poco más viejos que ella,  quienes se notaban que era la primera vez que salían  de su campo y le preguntaron;  – ¿dónde queda ei Centro Olímpico? Él contestó:  – en la Ortega y Gasset con Kennedy,  ¿me entendieron? El más pequeño sonrió afirmativamente mostrando los tres dientes que le sobrevivían precariamente. Don Fermín indicó:   – sí ustedes quieren se montan en el mismo autobús que yo abordé, que lo deja en la misma puerta.

Dos horas después, el viejo Fermín se desmonto del autobús en Invivienda y apenas  había tenido tiempo de leer  el titular de  la amenazadora  noticia que estaba en la página dos, ya que viajó parado en el autobús agarrado del tubo, mientras  sentía la respiración de un albañil por la espalda y el mal aliento del sujeto que estaba  cara a cara  de él y predicando, la manera de como las mujeres con faldas cortas y pantalones apretados irían a quemarse en el infierno  por miles de años.

No usó el camino acostumbrado para llegar a su casa,  porque vio dos policías sospechosos hablando en una equina solitaria y por si acaso decidió cambiar de camino para despistarlo, ya que no se justificaba que a un zorro como él, de tanta experiencia se dejara atracar por estúpido,   pero dos calles después comenzó a sentir pisadas suspicaces detrás de él, lo que lo motivó a desviarse en 4 ocasiones más, pero sus perseguidores aún lo seguían  con inconmensurable insistencia,  lo que motivó a que acelerara el paso, ya tenia una hora y veintitrés  minutos caminado, iba casi corriendo cuando le atacó ese terrible dolor en el pecho y antes de caer al pavimento pudo ver a sus perseguidores y no le dio tiempo responderle cuando le preguntaron:  ¿señoi faita mucho para llegá al  Centro Olímpico?.

Los policías y un enfermero  del 911 llegaron dos horas después y  el chofer de la ambulancia, que era el que más sabía del grupo, confirmó  que estaba muerto, los  campesinos entraron al cuartel para dar su declaración, el periódico que cargaba don Fermín  se desorganizó por el viento, llevándose todas sus páginas, excepto el folio dos, que  se quedó inmóvil,  desafiando la brisa y mostrándole al mundo el titular  que le trajo desasosiego  y paranoia  al difunto  don Fermín:   “Gobierno inicia el programa de seguridad ciudadana  “Barrio Seguro´´.
