Manuel Jiménez y su visión de los dominicanos en el exterior

Bajo la dirección de Manuel Jiménez, la política de relaciones internacionales ha dado un giro decisivo, priorizando el pleno respaldo a los dominicanos en el extranjero. Sus mayores esfuerzos de cooperación y hermanamiento se centran en aquellas ciudades extranjeras donde reside un gran porcentaje de compatriotas. Jiménez comprende que los dominicanos en el exterior representan un grupo de patriotas que mantienen una conexión fuerte con la República Dominicana. En consonancia con esta visión internacional, anunció a finales de agosto Manuel anuncio en NY la apertura de una oficina de apoyo y asesoría destinada a los dominicanos que residen fuera de su patria.
Además, el alcalde reveló que se nombrará un parque del dominicano en el exterior y un boulevard en honor a estos héroes que residen en tierras extranjeras, sin perder nunca el vínculo con su patria de origen.
Manuel Jiménez valora las remesas de los dominicanos en el exterior como la mayor fuente de ingresos del país. Destacó que, gracias a esta solidaridad económica de nuestros compatriotas, la economía dominicana no colapsó durante la época de la pandemia. Esta contribución de los dominicanos en el exterior se asemeja al espíritu de los padres de la patria, quienes en su momento fueron exiliados políticos y vivieron en el extranjero. Un ejemplo emblemático es Juan Pablo Duarte, quien pasó la mayor parte de su vida lejos de su patria. Cuando la República Dominicana estuvo en peligro, Duarte y otros dominicanos en el exterior se presentaron valientemente para salvar la patria, al igual que lo hicieron los compatriotas que multiplicaron sus generosas remesas durante el Covid, lo que a su vez, preservó numerosas vidas.
Manuel Jiménez sostiene la firme creencia de que, al igual que Juan Pablo Duarte, los dominicanos en el exterior son los más presentes, conectados en cuerpo y alma con la República Dominicana, y juegan un papel esencial en su crecimiento y desarrollo.
Santo Domingo Este se destaca como la única ciudad de la República Dominicana que forma parte de una prestigiosa red de ciudades en Centroamérica y la República Dominicana. Es importante señalar que todas las demás ciudades integrantes de esta red ostentan el estatus de capitales en sus respectivos países.
En octubre, la alcaldía formalizó un relevante acuerdo de hermanamiento y cooperación con San Juan, Puerto Rico, un pacto respaldado por las cancillerías de ambos estados. Este acuerdo se suma a otros hermanamientos y acuerdos de cooperación con ciudades de renombre como Allentown, Santiago de Cuba y Changsha, China, destacando la posición líder de esta alcaldía en su activa política internacional.
Adicionalmente, se encuentran en desarrollo conversaciones avanzadas con diversas ciudades de renombre, incluyendo Niterói, Brasil, Veracruz, México, Sunrise y Miramar en Florida, así como otras ciudades en Estados Unidos, Asia, Europa y América del Sur.
Santo Domingo Este ha ganado reconocimiento internacional al ser seleccionado para participar en el Foro Internacional de Alcaldes en Viena. La distinción se debe a su innovadora propuesta de construir ciudades orientadas hacia el bienestar de los niños. Esta iniciativa tiene como objetivo inculcar desde la etapa preescolar la importancia del medio ambiente y proporcionar una educación que prepare a los niños para vivir en comunidades sostenibles. La presentación en el foro fue aclamada, y el alcalde Jiménez recibió una ovación destacada entre sus homólogos de los cinco continentes.
El compromiso de Jiménez con las relaciones internacionales es evidente en su búsqueda activa de acuerdos de hermanamiento y cooperación. Estos acuerdos persiguen atraer inversiones extranjeras y aprender de ciudades exitosas en los ámbitos económico, social, cultural, ambiental y tecnológico. Gracias a un acuerdo con el Programa de las Naciones Unidas y el apoyo al departamento de Relaciones Internacionales, Santo Domingo Este avanza hacia su inclusión en el Programa de Ciudades Emergentes y Sostenibles del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo.
El departamento de Relaciones Internacionales de la alcaldía se adapta a los objetivos, tamaño, demografía y política exterior de la ciudad y el país. En el caso de Santo Domingo Este, ha evolucionado para promover los intereses del municipio y la comunidad, otorgando prioridad a la comunicación con organizaciones internacionales y las instituciones educativas locales.
En síntesis, a nivel internacional, Santo Domingo Este se destaca con una calificación sobresaliente, representada por una «A». Estos nuevos vínculos internacionales subrayan el liderazgo ejercido por esta alcaldía en el ámbito de su política internacional activa, a la vez que fortalecen las relaciones con diversas comunidades a nivel global. La visión de Manuel Jiménez, orientada a la inclusión de los dominicanos en el exterior y la promoción de la cooperación internacional, serán visibles inmediatamente y se consolidarán en los próximos cuatro años, asegurando su sostenibilidad a largo plazo.
