Rescatan a mineros en Cerro Maimón

La Corporación Minera Dominicana (Cormidom) anunció el rescate de Gregory Alexander Méndez Torres y Carlos Yépez Ospina, quienes habían quedado atrapados en la zona sur de la concesión minera en Cerro de Maimón, provincia Monseñor Nouel, tras producirse un deslizamiento de roca mientras laboraban en la empresa el pasado 31 de julio.
El rescate se produjo a las 11:16 a.m. de este martes 9 de agosto, tras acceder a ellos por el nuevo túnel de desvío referido como Ruta de Rescate B, una de las dos vías que se habían creado desde el inicio del plan de rescate para llegar al punto donde se encontraban los dos mineros.
En la operación, que se extendió por 10 días, participaron más de 70 mineros expertos en minería subterránea de Cormidom, comandados por Paul Brown, Ben Burges y Sedden Temple.
El equipo de rescate estuvo apoyado por 40 técnicos en áreas de geología, geotécnica e ingeniería de minas, incluyendo a nacionales dominicanos, así como de Australia, Estados Unidos, México, Colombia y Perú que brindan servicios a la empresa minera y que trabajaban en la superficie.
Gregory y Carlos fueron objeto de una evaluación médica al momento de llegar a la superficie y trasladados, vía aérea al Hospital Militar Docente, FARD, Dr. Ramón De Lara, para realizar una revisión más exhaustiva de su estado de salud.
Igualmente, se informó que continúan con asistencia de salud mental para brindarles soporte por el proceso de aislamiento que experimentaron.
Paul Marinko, presidente de Cormidom, agradeció a los mineros y sus familiares por la paciencia y la confianza depositada en las labores de rescate, al tiempo que aplaudió los esfuerzos de todos los expertos que trabajaron sin descanso hasta traerlos con vida a la superficie.
Asimismo, dio las gracias al Gobierno de Canadá, al equipo de Machines Rogers International, a los voluntarios internacionales y expertos de rescate de minas de Colorado en Estados Unidos, de Australia, donde se encuentra la casa matriz de Cormidom.
