Al conmemorare este 30 de mayo 60 años del ajusticiamiento de Trujillo, voy a escribir sobra la relación de Trujillo y la iglesia; dividido en tres entregas:

1-El Maridaje de Trujillo y la Iglesia, 2-El Concordato.  3-Rompimiento de Trujillo con la Iglesia.

 

EL MARIDAJE DE TRUJILLO Y LA IGLESIA

 

Cuando Trujillo asumió la Presidencia, el   Arzobispo Metropolitano de Santo Domingo era monseñor Adolfo Alejandro Nouel, a su muerte asumió el arzobispado Ricardo Pittini. La Relación del tirano con la iglesia fueron cordiales, salvo incidentes aislados con algunos sacerdotes.

 

La iglesia formó cooperativas en la capital y diferentes municipios, realizó trabajos sociales en los barrios, fundó orfanatorios; el gobierno le construyó colegios, iglesias, las monjas administraban los hospitales, se persiguió la brujería, se firmó el Concordato; varios sacerdotes ocuparon cargos en el gobierno, tal es el caso del padre Oscar Roble Toledano quien fue embajador ante la UNESCO. Otra de las concepciones que Trujillo hizo a la iglesia y a mi juicio la más dañina fue sustituir la escuela hostosiana.

 

El educador puertorriqueño Eugenio María de Hostos, fue el fundador de la escuela normal dominicana, la iglesia enfrentó este método de enseñanza diciendo que era una educación atea.  La escuela de Hostos no era atea, era laica, preparaba ciudadanos conscientes de sus deberes y derechos; era una educación científica, basada en el análisis crítico y el razonamiento, no en la creencia ciega; consideraba que la mujer debía educarse para que jugara un rol político y social.

 

Destruida la escuela de Hostos, (para eso se prestó Joaquín Balaguer quien era el secretario de educación) la educación paso a ser orientada por   la filosofía escolástica; se sustituyó la ciencia y el razonamiento lógico por las creencias y comenzó a descender en calidad hasta llegar al desastre que es hoy. Trujillo construyó a la iglesia colegios como: el Loyola, El Calasanz, El Apostolado, Don Bosco, Domingo Savio y otros.

 

La iglesia le saco buen provecho a ese maridaje.
